Meeting : The International Space Station

Twenty five years of continuous habitation and counting, the ISS has provided answers to myriad questions and yielded scientific benefits for all. What went into the planning and development of this iconic spacecraft and what is life like on board for the crew, who eat 14 tonnes of food in six months? The future for this international project is increasingly uncertain however, as it nears the end of it's journey, having travelled the equivalent of the moon and back, every day for a quarter of a century!
Our speaker Keith Townsend has had lifelong interest in astronomy converged with the development of astronomical cameras in the early 2000s and has led to 25 years of frustration and joy, imaging the things you cannot see. He has been delivering talks for 15 years now and was elected as a Fellow of the RAS in 2016, delighting in inspiring the general public with my passion for the subject, as well as exploring subjects of interest to astronomical and other societies.
